My Tank odyssey works lined 2 ball was already accurate, but this is an improvement. Probably the biggest feature of this putter is increased feel. I think that the better feel is greatly aiding accuracy/5(17).
The Odyssey Tank range has been extended and the inclusion of the Tank 2-Ball makes the world's best selling putter even more popular. Tank technology uses Counterbalance Weight Stability which gives you a heavier than standard head with a heavier shaft to keep your hands quieter through your putting stroke.

However you can't just add it to the head only as otherwise it becomes unwieldy. You need to counterbalance the putter by also adding weight to the grip end of the club too. This may sound like you will get a putter that is too heavy to use at all, but if you get it right then the two weights will balance each other out and it will have a similar feel to a regular putter.

That in essence is what Callaway has done with the Odyssey Tank putter. The head is g instead of around grams, the shaft is g instead of around g and the grip has a 40g weight in it. Now making putters heavier is nothing new as the appropriately named Heavy Putter company did this years ago. However over time they had to make lighter versions as the originals were too heavy for wide appeal. What I feel Callaway has done is refine this approach further and combine it with the one of their most popular head shapes in the 7.

The extra weight felt very manageable and from short range the weight counterbalancing almost takes over your stroke and the Tank is excellent at this distance.

Sometimes when you move further away from the hole, heavier putters can become harder to control. If you sometimes get a little jumpy on those shots around the green, at least these days there are more options.

As well as just smashing a putter through the fringe or reaching for a straighter faced iron, you can now also use a hybrid. However each requires a different technique, so what Callaway has done with the Odyssey X-Act Tank chipper is bring elements of all three together in a single club that you swing like a putter.

Chippers have been around for a while, but not many are made by the mainstream putter brands so the backing of Odyssey means that you can be assured that this is a quality product. The key is the wide X-Act sole that is cambered like a hybrid to increase forgiveness on even the tightest of lies and gives the X-Act Tank the look of a mallet putter with more loft.

The face has the usual White Hot insert from the Odyssey putter range but with face grooves that create a little bit of check if you hit it right with enough force. The feel is pretty good although a metal face would probably have given a better all round result. As it is, the sound is a little hollow, but the softer insert will be good for those who prefer a firmer ball.

Alignment is always key and to help with this Callaway has added the Marxman putter lines to the back of the gram head to ensure you are pointing in the right direction.

There is a pretty aggressive offset on the hosel which comes from the X-Act's putter heritage and it is there to keep the hands ahead and also to avoid those shots we don't talk about. All this sounds very reassuring and so it should as it is very similar in style and specification to the Odyssey Marxman X-act Putting Wedge they did in However Callaway has enhanced the design further by adding a counterbalanced grip from their Tank putter range to the X-Act to stabilise your hands and prevent them from imitating someone holding an angry snake by the tail.

The weight is within an oversized, non-tapered SuperStroke Odyssey chipper grip that also enables you to place your hands at any point to suit your height and stance for putting. Imagining that you are using your putting stroke is the best approach. Just address the ball in the middle of your stance and the X-Act will keep your hands ahead of the ball.

Odyssey "Tank" 1 Putter. Calling in Reinforcements The putter can be the most fickle club in the bag. While it may have its ups and downs, sometimes it just plain quits. When your putter surrenders, it is time for reinforcements. The Odyssey "Tank" is a a putter designed to help smooth out some problems on the green and improve your consistency with a heavier putter head and backweights under the grip.

This new counterbalance movement is all about eliminating wrist issues in the stroke and engaging the larger muscles of the arms, shoulders and back. Using less wrists means a more consistent stroke results in better distance and direction control. When they call it a "tank", they aren't joking, this putter is heavy. While maybe not the heaviest putter on the market, it certainly is much heavier than most.

Even though it is heavier, I appreciated the fact that is still looked like a regular anser style putter. It wasn't funky or clunky, it is a 1 head, virtually no different from the lighter version. The heavier head is paired with significant weight under the grip. This counterbalancing effect is very noticeable as it moves the balance point up the shaft towards the hands. This is designed to make it more difficult to break your wrists during the putting stroke. This putter has many of the features that make Odyssey putters favorites among golfers.

The first aspect of this Odyssey putter that you will notice is the tried and true soft insert.
